Coventry – Hidden in Plain Sight

In October 2009, my book, Coventry: Hidden in Plain Sight was published by Breedon Books (now DB Publishing). The book contains over 300 photographs of modern Coventry, all taken by myself.
In April 2009 I had some of my photographs featured in the BBC: Coventry and Warwickshire My Coventry project, to show the incoming chief executive of Coventry what the residents of Coventry loved, and hated, about our city. Several of my photographs were shown in an exhibition, and one of them remains on the wall made up from a mosaic of many other photos taken.
In June 2009 I decided to take part in Solo Photobook Month, also known as Sofobomo, where the challenge is to produce a PDF of a photobook within a month. At first I couldn’t decide on a topic, but then I decided to do a follow on from the My Coventry project and do my project on Coventry.
I completed my book within the timeframe and also produced a copy of it via Blurb.com. I also put a copy of the PDF online. I received several compliments on the book, including one person changing their perception of the city based on my photographs. Following this, I contacted several publishers to see if there would be any interest in publishing it.
Breedon responded favourably, and the book is now available in Waterstones and WH Smith in Coventry, as well as on Amazon (You can also buy it via the Amazon link below) and I still get a thrill of excitement when I see it on sale!
